Hiring a house cleaner is an unusually trust-heavy purchase. You're giving someone access to your home, your valuables, and often your children and pets. Yet most homeowners make the decision in under ten minutes, based on whichever company shows up first in Google. This guide walks through the nine questions you should ask before booking any residential cleaning service in Atlanta.
1. Are they insured and bonded?
This is non-negotiable. Insurance covers damage to your home; bonding covers theft. Any legitimate cleaning company can produce a certificate of insurance on request. Companies that can't — or won't — should be removed from consideration immediately.
2. Are the cleaners employees or contractors?
Companies that use W-2 employees can train them, retain them, assign them to recurring clients, and supervise their work. Contractor-based models (1099) produce higher turnover, less training, and more crew rotation. Ask directly.
3. Will I have the same team every visit?
Crew rotation is the #1 cause of quality decline in recurring cleaning service. Ask whether you'll have a dedicated team (see our list of Atlanta cleaners that guarantee same-team visits), how substitutions are handled, and whether you can request a specific lead cleaner.
4. What products do they use?
If you have children, pets, or allergies — or simply don't want harsh chemicals in your home — ask for the specific product brands. A professional green operator will tell you. See our verified green cleaning guide.
5. Do they offer a satisfaction guarantee?
A real guarantee is specific and written: if you find something that wasn't cleaned to standard within 24 hours of the visit, the company will return and re-clean the area at no charge. Vague "we aim to make customers happy" language doesn't count.
6. How do they price — and how accurate are their quotes?
Transparent pricing is a strong signal of a well-run operation. Be wary of companies that quote a wide range and then invariably charge the top of it. Ask exactly what's included, what counts as an extra, and what would cause the price to change. Our 2026 pricing guide gives you the ranges to benchmark against.
7. What's included in a "standard" clean?
Standards vary dramatically. Some companies include baseboards, interior windows, and appliance exteriors; others don't. Ask for a room-by-room task list in writing before the first visit.
8. How long have they been in business?
Longevity isn't everything, but it's meaningful. A company that has survived 5+ years in a competitive market like Atlanta has figured out operations, hiring, and customer retention. Brand-new operators can be excellent, but they carry more risk.
9. What do reviews consistently say?
Don't look at the star rating — look at the pattern. Do complaints cluster around the same issues (rushed crews, crew rotation, billing disputes)? Do positive reviews mention specific details (a cleaner by name, a particular service)? Five reviews with consistent themes tell you more than 500 generic five-stars.
